Washington, D.C.- Today Senator John McCain released the following statement regarding his family vacation to NAS Burmuda: In August, 1991 I traveled with members of my family to NAS Bermuda to vacation, at my expense. I was eligible to vacation at the base with my family as a result of my twenty-two years of service in the Navy, just like any other retired military officer. I paid for my transportation to and from the facility, just as. I paid for the cost of our housing while on the island. The entire trip occurred within the rules for use of the facility, with the approval of Navy officials. My eligibility to use NAS Bermuda for a family vacation had absolutely no relationship to my service as a United States Senator, it was exclusively the result of my twenty-two years of service in the United States Navy. I am disappointed that anyone would imply that my stay at this facility with my family, on a space available basis, was anything but appropriate. # # #
