Washington, D.C. -Following is Senator John McCain's statement in response to Secretary Federico Pena's announcement of a bi-partisan commission on the future of the airline industry:

"I am very pleased that Secretary Pena is establishing this commission on the crisis in the nation's airline industry, as Congress recommended in the 1992 FAA reauthorization bill. It is critical that the Congress, Administration and the airlines work together to address problems of massive losses and inadequate competition in our airline industry. This is an urgent and complex problem that affects not only the employees and their families of the airlines, but the millions of Americans who are interested in lower fares and quality travel options when they fly."
